Hi everyone!!
First of all, I'm sorry that I haven't written a proper blog entry for the last few days. Truth is, I have been living here on Inismore, day by day, having a wonderful, spontaneous time with a big group of interesting people.
It all started the day I first arrived on the island. I spent the morning cycling to a couple of the major tourist spots: the Seal Colony and Dun Aonghasa (pronounced Dun Angus in english). The walls of the fort were first built around 1100 bc. Later walls were added over the years. It's a truly spectacular site. I went around 4 pm, when there were only a few other people around, to check it out.
When I came back to the hostel later that day I felt like some company so I introduced myself to some cool looking people sitting around drinking wine. Within about five minutes I had a glass in my hand and plateful of dinner in front of me - I have yet to eat with a group of less than 6 in five days. We're a mixed group of people here on the island from various places, here for various reasons and for various amount of time. But we are all here together. We've been eating together, drinking together, swimming together or just plain hanging out: it's been lovely.
Among the people I've met here is Wesley, a big, super-friendly guys from New Zealand (he and have joked that we're long-lost brothers since both our red-beards have grown in and our ancestors are from Donegal). Anyways, he and I were only supposed to be here for 2 nights and then I was going to leave for Doolin and he for Dublin, but we've since stayed on for a few nights longer. Carolina, who from Poland but lives here during the summer, invited us to stay with her for a few nights since she had an extra room and other friends staying with her anyways. He left today but I've decided to stay for a few more days.
Check this out: I've gotten a job working in our hostel with a couple other buddies here. Don't worry everyone, I am coming home on schedule. However, as long as I help changing the bedding in the morning for 2 hours daily (10-12) and help tidy up the kitchen after breakfast, I don't have to pay for lodging or food!!! How awesome is that!? So, having a great time (now very cheap!) and won't leave for another few days.
I'll upload some pictures soon.
Love you all!
-Steve
