3 Americans, 1 Aussie, 1 German, 3 awesome Faroesian girls!

Hey all!!!

I took a chance a couple days ago and introduced myself to these two girls who I thought looked as though they might have been Norwegian or Swedish. Turns out it was quite a good move! We chatted for a few minutes and it turned out that they were pretty cool. They, and two of their friends who arrived shortly after we met, come from the Faroe Islands (I had heard of it but had no clue what kind of people they were). I would say, in a way that makes sense to us Canucks, that they're as stylish as Montrealers, as relaxed as people from B.C. and as friendly as peeps from Nova Scotia.

Pretty nice picture so far, eh?

Anywho, last night I run into them in the lobby (where it seems everyone goes when they wanna go out and are looking for a drinkin' buddy) on my way out and they invite me to go to the Christchurch Cathedral with them today. Naturally, I totally said yeah.

We had a great time, the five of us. They joked that I was the male roadie in their all girl rock band. We headed over to the Cathedral (which is an awesome sight!). You can all google this after (love ya mom!) but here's the gist: it's a friggin' 12th century castle/church! I have some good pictures of this but the pc I'm on is not cooperating with me at the moment. We toured around this beautiful living monument (mass is still actively held after 800 years!) seeing even the crypt in the basement of the church - yikes!

Afterwards, and Mandy you're definitely gonna appreciate this, I tagged along with them as they all got tattoos of four-leaf clovers. I didn't anticipate how emotional the event was going to be. A couple of them really didn't have an easy time with getting inked but what was so moving was that when one cried they all cried! The Faroese are a sweet and gentle people! It was the first tattoo for a couple of them, I'm really grateful to have been able to share that with them.

A sweet side note... Their idea was that they would get 4-leaf clover tats to symbolize Ireland but also to symbolize their trip together as a foursome of friends. After buying them their aftercare ointment (it was the least I could do to thank them for such company) they gathered round for a big group-hug and, to my delight I was pulled into it as though I was an old friend. It was then suggested that the four-leaves would represent them but they would remember me as the stem!

There are such sweet people out here...ironically I seem to be meeting the rest of the world out here but not too many Irishpeople! No matter, wonderful people are wonderful no matter where they're from.

Speaking of which, I hope you all are doing well.

Godun Kvold! (Faroese: good evening)

Love Steve
