Today I went on a day trip to the Boyne valley to visit Newgrange. I'll save everyone the trouble of going to wikipedia for this one: 40 feet high, and 250 feet wide, tomb built in 3500 b.c. (6 centuries before the pyramids of Egypt!). On the stones that make up the tomb are swirls and geometric patterns similar to later Celtic knot design. It was such an incredible sight to see. We entered the tomb in two small groups because it is quite a tight squeeze; at some points I was worried that I'd get stuck! (Getting claustrophobic yet Mom?).
The Boyne Valley itself is gorgeous: rolling hills of square plots varying in their tone of green. It's true when they say that there are tones of green that only exist in Ireland - vivacious, vivifying verdure!
Well I'm going to get some dinner. I've been doing a fair bit of cooking lately - saving money! The hostel lets us use their enormous kitchen, it's really great. I'm eating really healthily too. Add that to plenty of walking.
Cheers all!
Love Steve
